What Are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are a class of products that exfoliate your skin through chemical reactions. They can slough off dead skin cells, reduce sebum (the oil produced by your skin), treat acne, increase skin cell turnover rate, reduce hyperpigmentation and more.
They’re called chemical peels because some stronger formulations cause the outer layers of skin to peel off, a process that can take from days to weeks. Superficial or mild chemical peels cause little to no peeling and don’t require downtime.
Why Choose SkinOvation?
Our team’s top priority is your skin’s health. At your chemical peel consultation, we’ll examine your skin and review what’s worked or not worked for you in the past. We’ll use that information and your current skin care goals to determine which chemical peel is right for you.
With your safety top of mind, a medical esthetician will perform a chemical peel under the supervision of a registered nurse or nurse practitioner.
Whether you’re visiting us for a single peel or as part of a long-term skin health strategy, we’re here to offer all our Asheville area clients the best experience possible.
SkinOvation is proud to carry products from globally recognized, top-tier skin care brands such as PCA SKIN and WiQo.
Chemical Peels We Offer
We offer a range of chemical peels to suit every patient and skin type. Discover skin-brightening enzyme peels, transformative deeper peels and everything in between.
Most of our products are from PCA SKIN, an innovative developer of blended chemical peels. PRX-T33, our “no-peel peel,” is from Italian manufacturer WiQo.
PCA Enzymes Peel Series
Our gentlest options, products from PCA SKIN target various skin conditions and require zero downtime.
Revitalize: Therapeutic Papaya Mask combines papaya enzymes with fruit extracts, honey and green tea to brighten, exfoliate, moisturize and protect the skin. This mask is beneficial for every skin type.
Clarify: Therapeutic Salicylic Acid Mask is a purifying, clarifying mask that promotes a clear complexion. Active ingredients include 20% salicylic acid, detoxifying and antioxidant extracts and skin-soothing vitamin E. Clarify is designed for anyone with acne-prone skin.
Retexturize: Therapeutic Pumpkin Mask treats skin with acne, sun damage and dead skin cell buildup. It blends pumpkin enzymes with salicylic acid and several antibacterial and antioxidant ingredients. This potent formula is best for thick, resilient skin.
PCA Peel with Hydroquinone
Effective as both a light and medium peel, the PCA Peel with Hydroquinone softens fine lines, improves acne and lightens hyperpigmentation. It contains lactic acid (14%), salicylic acid (14%), citric acid (10%) and kojic acid (3%) along with hydroquinone (2%).
The more layers your provider applies, the stronger the peel becomes, and the more noticeable your results will be.
This peel is recommended for people looking to address recurring acne, signs of aging and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) caused by acne. It requires 5–7 days of recovery.
PCA Peel (hydroquinone-free)
This version of the PCA Peel omits hydroquinone, which some people cannot tolerate; it’s also better suited for darker skin tones and more sensitive skin types. This peel is otherwise formulated identically to the PCA Peel with Hydroquinone, treats the same concerns (except for PIH) and involves the same recovery.
PCA Sensi Peel
The Sensi Peel is a gentle treatment that brightens the skin, corrects hyperpigmentation and improves texture and tone. It’s designed to be safe for darker skin tones and sensitive skin. The Sensi Peel combines the peeling effects of 12% lactic acid and 6% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) with melanin inhibitors, acne-fighting ingredients and skin-firming vitamin C.
We recommend the Sensi Peel for adults of any age, especially those with skin sensitivity. Expect approximately 1 week of recovery time after your peel.
PCA Pure Retinol Peel
This powerful peel rejuvenates, smooths and brightens the skin while evening out skin tone. It chemically exfoliates the skin and also increases cell turnover rate. It’s available in concentrations of 4% or 6% retinol, and contains soothing extracts, fruit oil and vitamin E.
The Pure Retinol Peel is recommended for people with normal to resilient skin in need of rejuvenation. It requires 7–10 days of recovery.
PCA MD Peel (CCl3)
This peel rejuvenates the skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin tone. It combines lactic acid (10%) and TCA (20%) with antioxidant ingredients. It’s considered a medium peel, but its strength can be determined by the number of layers applied.
The MD Peel is recommended for men and women with resilient skin. Recovery time is approximately 2 weeks.
PRX-T33 Perfect Intense Liquid from WiQo
Called the “no-peel peel,” PRX-T33 provides immediate aesthetic improvement with none of the downtime associated with other peels of its strength. Its patented combination of TCA, kojic acid and hydrogen peroxide penetrates deeply into the dermis without affecting the outermost layer of the skin.

Chemical Peels FAQ
Are chemical peels safe?
Chemical peels have an excellent safety profile. When administered by a qualified professional in a sterile setting, you have a minimal risk of complications. However, possible adverse side effects include infection, scarring and changes in skin color.
How do I prepare for a chemical peel?
We’ll provide you with a skin care regimen for the 2–4 weeks leading up to your treatment. During that time, you should avoid all other cosmetic procedures and excessive sun exposure. Following these steps will increase the overall effectiveness of your peel.
How do I take care of my skin after a chemical peel?
After your peel, it’s essential to keep your skin moisturized. You may be given a specific product to apply as your face heals. During the healing period, avoid sun and heat, including hot showers and saunas, and strenuous exercise or any activity that will cause sweating.
Take care not to pick at your skin as it begins to peel off, as this could cause scarring; follow all other instructions from your provider.
How many chemical peels will I need?
This answer depends on the concerns you’d like to address. People simply looking for brighter skin may undergo the occasional mild enzyme peel, while someone with deep acne scarring or loose, sagging skin might schedule PCA peels every 4–6 weeks until the desired results are achieved. Our team will help you develop a peel plan to meet your goals.
