Dysport at SkinOvation Advanced Aesthetics
Dysport is a cosmetic injectable produced by Galderma, the makers of Restylane. Like Botox, it is a neurotoxin that relaxes muscles in the face.
As we age, the expressions we make most frequently become etched in our skin. Repeated use of certain muscles pulls the skin to eventually form wrinkles called expression lines or dynamic wrinkling. Dysport injections treat these lines by temporarily freezing the muscles that cause them.
Dysport will allow you a more relaxed expression and a reduction of moderate-to-severe dynamic wrinkling.

Who are the Best Candidates for Dysport?
Dysport is ideal for men and women with moderate-to-severe dynamic wrinkling between the eyebrows. It’s safe for all skin types and tones. To receive Dysport injections, you must be at least 18 years old and in good general health.
The best way to determine your eligibility is to book a consultation with one of our Cosmetic Injectors.
What Can Dysport Injections Treat?
Dysport is approved to treat glabellar lines; these are the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows, sometimes called eleven lines. It’s administered in five specific locations between and above the brows.
Glabellar lines are sometimes more than a cosmetic concern. If you carry a lot of tension in your face, a permanently furrowed brow can be a source of headaches. By relaxing these tense muscles, Dysport can relieve any associated pain.
What to Expect During Your Dysport Treatment
A Dysport treatment requires little preparation and takes no longer than 45 minutes, most of which is spent preparing for the injections.
First, your provider will map out the injection sites on your face. Next, if you request it, they will apply a topical numbing cream to prevent any discomfort. Dysport injections aren’t painful; patients usually report feeling only a tiny pinch.
They will then administer a series of injections into the five predetermined sites; the number of injections you’ll receive will depend on the severity of the wrinkling. Dysport doesn’t involve any downtime; you can go about the rest of your day as usual. However, you should avoid:
- Touching the treated area; this increases the risk of infection or the Dysport migrating below your skin
- Heavy exercise; the increased blood flow to the area carries the same risk of migration
- Heavy drinking; increases the risk of bruising and swelling
- Blood-thinning medications; increases the risk of bruising and swelling
The results of Dysport will start to appear within 3 days, with full results visible after 2 weeks. The treated areas will be noticeably smoother, and you’ll look more relaxed.
Dysport effects last for approximately 4–5 months. If you continue receiving injections, subsequent results will last longer as your muscles become accustomed to their new, relaxed positions.
Related and Alternative Treatments
We offer several other cosmetic procedures that can be performed in conjunction with or instead of Dysport.
Depending on the location of your dynamic wrinkling, Botox may be a better option for you. At your consultation, we’ll determine whether you’re a better candidate for Dysport or Botox based on the areas you’d like treated and the current condition of your skin.
To treat other common signs of aging besides dynamic wrinkling, you may consider:
Dermal fillers: We carry a range of hyaluronic acid and alternative fillers that restore lost volume and contour your face for a fuller, more youthful appearance
Chemical peels: Address a range of concerns, including hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture and fine lines
Microneedling: Improves skin tone and texture, stimulates collagen production, reduces hyperpigmentation and more
How Much Does Dysport Cost?
Although Dysport is less expensive than Botox per vial, Dysport’s more diluted solution means that more product is necessary to achieve the same effect; therefore, Dysport and Botox usually cost about the same. For more information on our pricing, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Dysport FAQ
How do I prepare for Dysport?
In the week before your appointment, avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications and alcohol. These substances can thin the blood, increasing your risk of bruising and swelling.
Does Dysport have any side effects?
Dysport is considered very safe. Possible side effects include nose and throat irritation, headache, reactions at the injection site, upper respiratory tract infection and eyelid swelling or drooping.
More serious but rare side effects include unusual muscle weakness, double or blurred vision and trouble breathing or swallowing. Should you experience these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
What’s the difference between Dysport and Botox?
The primary differences between these two neurotoxins are:
- Treatment area – Dysport is specifically approved for the forehead and between the eyes
- Formulation – Dysport’s thinner solution spreads out to treat larger areas; Botox’s thicker formula enables it to remain in place, making it suitable for small areas
- Amount used – Dysport is less concentrated, so you’ll need more of it injected
How do I know whether to choose Dysport or Botox?
A trained professional with an excellent understanding of facial muscles will be able to determine which treatment is right for you. Additionally, it’s entirely possible that both Botox and Dysport might be involved in your treatment, as they treat different concerns and can be safely used together.
For instance, you might receive Dysport to treat glabellar lines and Botox for smile lines or crow’s feet. Your provider will determine what combination of these neurotoxins will work best for you.
