What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel-like solutions that are injected into the face to temporarily increase volume, reduce wrinkles and folds, or add definition. Some encourage the skin to produce more collagen (a protein responsible for skin health) for longer-lasting results.
Many people choose dermal fillers as a temporary and comparatively inexpensive alternative to plastic surgery. Unlike cosmetic surgeries, fillers don’t require incisions and downtime, or carry the risks associated with general anesthesia.

Dermal Fillers at SkinOvation
At SkinOvation Advanced Aesthetics we offer a range of safe, proven dermal fillers to fit our patients’ diverse needs. They fall into three categories: hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that immediately correct volume loss, products that gradually restore firmness to the skin and formulas that do both.
Bellafill
Bellafill uses a combination of collagen gel and medical-grade, biodegradable microspheres to instantly add volume to the face and encourages long-term collagen production. It addresses nasolabial folds and acne scars on the cheeks, and is the only filler that is FDA-approved to last for up to 5 years.
Radiesse
Radiesse addresses moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds in the lower face. It can also be used for the backs of the hands and atrophic (depressed) acne scars. It’s a double-action formula composed of a gel-like solution that immediately increases volume, and calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres which stimulate collagen growth in the long term.
Radiesse lasts approximately 12–18 months, although many patients report even longer-lasting effects.
Sculptra Aesthetics
Sculptra Aesthetics contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles that when injected into the skin, activates collagen production to create lasting fullness and firmness. It treats folds and wrinkles in the lower half of the face including nasolabial folds, marionette lines and chin wrinkles. Sculptra lasts for 1–2 years.
Juvederm
The Juvederm family of HA fillers are known for their ultra-smooth formulations. They’re manufactured by Allergan, the makers of Botox. Since 2006, Juvederm products have effectively and safely treated wrinkles and volume loss. Some formulas are also designed for feature enhancement.
Juvederm Vollure XC
Created for mature skin, Vollure XC corrects moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds on the lower face. It lasts up to 18 months.
Juvederm Ultra XC
Ultra XC treats slight-to-moderate wrinkles around the mouth, and is an excellent choice for adding volume to the lips. It’s effective for parentheses lines, vertical lip lines (lipstick lines) and marionette lines. Ultra XC lasts from 9–12 months.
Juvederm Ultra Plus XC
Ultra-Plus XC is injected more deeply into the skin than Ultra XC and is of a thicker consistency. This formula is ideal for facial contouring and lip augmentation, and treating moderate-to-severe wrinkles, nasolabial folds and volume loss. Ultra-Plus XC lasts around 12 months.
Juvederm Volbella XC
Designed for lip augmentation and to correct thin lines around the mouth, Volbella XC creates incredibly natural results lasting up to 12 months.
Juvederm Voluma XC
Voluma XC is an ultra–long-lasting filler that lifts and contours the cheeks to treat age-related volume loss. It can also enhance the chin to balance your profile. Volume XC lasts up to 2 years.
Restylane Dermal Fillers
Restylane is a family of HA fillers developed by Galderma and trusted worldwide for more than 20 years. These products are differentiated by the severity of volume loss and wrinkling they treat, the areas of the face they work best on and the specific features they can enhance.
Restylane’s next-generation formulations look remarkably natural, and rejuvenate your appearance without putting any restraints on your ability to make facial expressions. They’re indicated for patients over the age of 21.
Restylane
Restylane’s original formula treats moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It’s ideal for laugh lines, lines around the lips and cheek enhancements. Restylane lasts for 6–18 months, depending on the injection location.
Restylane Refyne
This HA filler is ideal for people seeking subtle improvements. Refyne treats mild-to-moderate nasolabial folds, marionette lines and other lines around the mouth. It lasts up to 12 months.
Restylane Defyne
Defyne’s potent formula corrects deep wrinkles around the mouth. It can also enhance the chin, improving your overall silhouette. Defyne lasts up to 12 months.
Restylane Lyft
This versatile dermal filler treats moderate-to-severe volume loss in the face and backs of the hands, and is a great option for cheek enhancement. Lyft lasts 12 months in the cheeks and 6 months in other areas.
Restylane Contour
Contour restores lost volume in the cheeks, rejuvenating your look while keeping true to your face’s natural appearance. It lasts up to 12 months.
Restylane Kysse
Restylane Kysse adds volume, color and elasticity to the lips for up to 12 months. It also smooths out upper lip lines (lipstick lines) and reduces wrinkling on the lips, giving them a fuller, smoother appearance.
How Much Do Fillers Cost?
The cost of your fillers depends on the brand you choose and the number of vials needed to achieve your cosmetic goals. For that reason, it’s difficult to assess the cost of your treatment before you’ve had a consultation. For more information about our dermal filler prices, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Dermal Fillers FAQ
How do I know which filler to choose?
The right filler for your face depends on multiple factors, including
- The area you’re treating
- The severity of your wrinkles, folds or volume loss (if applicable)
- Your desired timeline for results
We’ll discuss each of these aspects at your consultation to determine the filler or fillers that are right for you. If you have several different concerns to address, we may recommend more than one type of filler to meet your goals. These could be administered at the same session or over a few months for more gradual results.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers have been used worldwide for cosmetic purposes for decades. When injected by a qualified professional in a sterile environment, they have an excellent safety profile.
Possible temporary side effects are bruising, redness, swelling, pain and itching. Rare but potentially serious side effects include infection, lumps, bumps and skin discoloration.
Are filler injections painful?
No. Our patients typically report feeling only a slight pinch. However, to prevent any possible discomfort, we can apply a topical numbing agent before administering your injections.
What is the aftercare protocol?
After your filler appointment, you may ice the treatment area to reduce redness and swelling. Wait until the next day to exercise or perform strenuous activities, as they may cause the product to move beneath your skin.
Avoid excessive sun exposure and UV lamps for several days, and don’t touch the treated area unless you’ve been instructed to massage it (as is the case with Sculptra treatments). Be sure to follow any other instructions given by your provider.
