Microneedling at SkinOvation Advanced Aesthetics
Microneedling, known more formally as collagen induction therapy, improves skin’s tone, texture and quality with minimal downtime. This procedure involves stamping a pen-shaped, handheld device tipped with tiny sterile needles over the entire face or a specific treatment area, creating superficial microwounds.
Once these pinpricks are created, your skin will immediately begin to repair itself by producing collagen and elastin (two proteins essential to skin health), to heal the damaged tissue. The result is firmer, smoother and unblemished skin.
Why Choose Us for Microneedling?
When planning cosmetic treatments, it’s crucial to choose a skilled provider. Selecting a reputable clinic reduces your risk of possible complications from microneedling, which includes infection, hyperpigmentation and scarring.
At SkinOvation Advanced Aesthetics, we’re proud to provide a safe, hygienic environment staffed with a qualified team. All our microneedling procedures are performed by a licensed esthetician under the supervision of a registered nurse or nurse practitioner.

Who are the Best Candidates for Microneedling?
Microneedling is considered safe for almost everyone in generally good health. Unlike some skin resurfacing procedures, it can be performed on all skin tones and at any age.
As with any cosmetic treatment, microneedling does have several contraindications. These include people with keloid scars, active acne, any skin infection or chronic skin condition, as well as those who are immunocompromised. If you’re pregnant or nursing, you should wait to undergo this procedure.

What Can You Treat with Microneedling?
Microneedling is an incredibly versatile procedure. Here’s a short list of the skin concerns it can treat:
- Atrophic (depressed) acne scars
- Dark spots
- Fine lines
- Hyperpigmentation
- Loose skin
- Melasma
- Oversized pores
- Rough skin texture
- Stretch marks
- Sunspots
- Uneven skin tone
While microneedling is usually performed on the face, it can also treat concerns such as stretch marks on other areas of the body.
What to Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment
As the first step of your microneedling session, your provider will clean your skin and apply a topical numbing cream. Once it’s taken effect—after about 20 minutes—they will begin stamping the microneedling device over your face. A full-face microneedling treatment usually takes between 45–60 minutes.
Once your provider has passed the device over your entire face or treatment area, they will apply a rejuvenating, nourishing serum to your skin. This serum will penetrate the microwounds, allowing the active ingredients to be fully absorbed into your skin.
Lastly, they will apply a cooling mask to soothe your skin and allow you to relax for a few minutes.
Microneedling Results
About 1 week after your procedure, you’ll start to see changes in the tone and quality of your skin which will continue to develop over 1–2 months. These results will last for 3–5 months; you can prolong them by wearing an SPF 30 sunscreen every day and avoiding skin-aging habits such as smoking and tanning.
Related and Alternative Treatments
As an add-on to your microneedling session, you may opt for a PRP facial. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a special preparation of your own blood that’s applied all over the facial skin after a microneedling session. A PRP treatment, sometimes called a vampire facial, speeds up collagen and elastin production for even stronger results.
Microneedling is just one of the many cosmetic procedures we offer to brighten, rejuvenate and improve the skin. In addition to microneedling, you may be interested in one of the following services:
- Mesotherapy: These innovative treatments combine the benefits of microneedling with a powerful anti-aging and skin-brightening serum
- Chemical peels: Chemical peels brighten and rejuvenate the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; we offer a no-downtime peel or a deeper, more dramatic option
- Dermaplaning: Dermaplaning involves passing a razor over your face to remove dead skin cells and tiny hairs. The result is smoother, brighter-looking skin that absorbs skin care products more efficiently and helps you achieve flawless makeup looks
These treatments should be performed at a separate appointment from your microneedling session.
How Much Does Microneedling Cost?

Microneedling FAQ
Is microneedling painful?
No. During the session, a topical numbing cream will prevent you from feeling any pain. Once the cream wears off, you may experience mild discomfort, including burning and stinging, for about 12 hours post appointment. These side effects will resolve on their own within a day, but you can use an ice pack to reduce inflammation in the meantime.
Is microneedling the same as dermarolling?
Not exactly. While a microneedling device’s needles are held perpendicularly to your skin’s surface, a dermarolling device enters the skin at an angle, causing more damage below. SkinOvation uses a stamping-style device that causes less harm to your skin and helps you heal faster.
How do I prepare for a microneedling appointment?
A microneedling session requires a small amount of preparation; as such, the following should be avoided:
- 2 weeks before: excessive sun exposure, IPL and laser procedures
- 5–7 days before: waxing, depilatory creams, electrolysis, retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliating acids, blood-thinning medications
- 3 days before: anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen
- 1 day before: shaving
If you normally experience cold sores, you may wish to take an antiviral medication for a few days before treatment, as microneedling can cause flare-ups.
Please arrive at your appointment with a freshly washed face; do not wear any makeup or skin care products.
Will I need multiple sessions?
To fully resolve specific issues such as hyperpigmentation or scars, you’ll likely need between 3–6 sessions, depending on the severity of the concerns you’re treating.
Many people choose to undergo multiple microneedling treatments simply because they make their skin look and feel brighter, smoother and firmer. To keep your skin fresh and glowing, you may schedule regular appointments approximately 6 weeks apart.
